Dhaka- (UNB) – Bangladesh’s upcoming opening batsman Mohammad Ashraful emerged as the most outstanding player in the Grameen Phone ICC/ACC Under-17 Asia Cup Cricket that concluded at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here yesterday (Saturday). India won the most coveted Asian Under-17 Cricket title beating hosts Bangladesh by six wickets in the final of the 10-team meet, also participated by holders Sri Lanka and Last time runners-up Pakistan. Ashraful, who scored 303 runs in six matches including a century against Kuwait, having an average of 50.5 runs, was adjudged the “Player of the tournament” by the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA). He was also adjudged the best batsman of the tournament to get the RC Cola trophy and a prize money of Tk 5,000. Sri Lanka’s opening batsman K Gunawardana, who scored 281 runs in five matches including a century against UAE, was named the RC Cola “Player of the tournament” to win a prize money of Tk 10,000 along with a trophy. Besides, Bangladeshi wicket-keeper cum top order batsman Hasibul Haque, who hit not out 52 runs against India yesterday, was adjudged the best fielder while Sri Lankan I Dilshan Has named the best bolwer of the tournament to win the RC Cola trophy and prize money of Tk 5.000 each. Monish Mishra, who played an anchor role for the Indian victory against Bangladesh in the final yesterday with his 51 runs off 81 balls featuring five fours and a six in addition to one wicket was adjudged the man of the final to receive Grameen Phone trophy. After the final, State Minister for Youth, Sports and Cultural Affairs Obaidul Quader handed over the champions Trophy to India. BCB President and the Deputy Minister for LGRD Saber Hossain Chowdhury handed the runners-up trophy to Bangladesh. |
